The Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation has awarded the junior research group of Dr. Jonas Warneke a 24-month Exploration Grant (180 000 euros) for their project "New routes in life science mass spectrometry by in situ analyte functionalization with mass-selected fragment ions on surfaces". The research group will apply a functionalization method developed at the University of Leipzig to large biomolecules for the first time and develop new mass spectrometric analysis methods for these molecules. According to the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, the Exploration Grant gives outstanding basic researchers in biology, chemistry and medicine the opportunity to explore new research directions early in their careers. Junior group leaders can pursue new ideas or surprising results that have the potential to complement or redirect their own research profile.
