Insitutskolloquium
p-block modulation in transition metal catalysis
Kurzabstract: In recent years considerable effort has been dedicated to combining the advantages of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. One promising strategy involves the heterogenization of catalysts by anchoring molecular complexes onto solid supports, which helps to retain the molecular precision and tunability of homogeneous systems while gaining the stability and reusability of heterogeneous counterparts. In our research, we have expanded this concept by designing catalysts that combine a transition metal with a p-block element, which gives access to well-defined materials, such as metal phosphides or sulfides. The incorporation of a p-block element into the metal framework plays a key role in stabilizing the metal phase and enabling the formation of uniformly distributed active sites. This approach offers a powerful way to combine the strengths of both catalytic worlds in an hybrid system.
